On Kaamelott, Cousin Bizarre delivered 52 shots, covering a mix of environment work, FX, and compositing.

A large part of the work focused on the ruins of Kaamelott, which were built as a modular CG environment. Towers, walls, and architectural elements were modeled and textured procedurally, allowing the ruins to be used both as set extensions and full CG environments depending on the needs of each shot. In some cases, plates were entirely replaced to create fully CG views of the castle. Considerable compositing work was also required, including sky replacements, rain FX, and lighting adjustments, to shift the plates—often shot in bright daylight—toward the darker, stormy atmosphere required for the sequence.

For the Portus Albus sequence, we created CG boats and harbor elements that were integrated into the plates. These additions helped bring more activity into the shots and reinforce the atmosphere of a Mediterranean port.

The Lady of the Lake required a specific approach. The actress was 3D roto-animated to allow precise control over the effect. The look involved extensive look development, with the goal of evoking water both in the form and in the visual “glitches” of the character. The effect was designed to feel less like a digital artifact and more like an aqueous disturbance, as if her presence were briefly disrupting the image itself.
